Waterfalls
Up Jackson County Macon County McDowell County Swain County

Waterfalls of North Carolina. Watching nature's own water shows is spellbinding. The sound, the sight and the power create an unforgettable experience. There are dozens of waterfalls in Western North Carolina. Some are easier to reach than others and can be viewed from the road. Others require a little walking.  A few, however, require strenuous climbs down - and then back up - steep mountainsides.  Usually good trails (and even specially constructed stairways where needed) are provided to maximize your safety. But, please, be careful. Don't let a momentary slip of concentration ruin your visit.

Here, we will give you directions telling you how to reach each of them.

Waterfalls are described jointly by county, some waterfalls are repeated in two separate counties. Thanks to Rich Stevenson for the use of some of his wonderful photos, see http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/index.html for some incredible photos and descriptions.
