The Appalachian Trail

The Blue Ridge Parkway

   Linking Shennandoah National Park to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway he Blue Ridge Parkway is a 469-mile, linear National Park many stopping points along the way. Wayside parks in the High Country include the Moses Cone Estate and craft center in Blowing Rock, Julian Price Park and Price Lake in Blowing Rock, The Linn Cove Viaduct on Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls and Linville Gorge near the community of Linville Falls, and the Mineral Museum in Spruce Pine.
   Driving on the Parkway is free of charge. Fees are charged for the use of facilities, such as boat rentals or campsites.
   The US Highway 221 turnoff located one mile from the entrance to Grandfather Mountain is located at milepost 305.

Mt. Mitchell
Highest point east of the Mississippi. Breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, rolling ridges and fertile valleys. Mount Mitchell State Park is located in Yancey County, 33 miles northeast of Asheville on the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile marker #355.

The Orchard at Altapass
Historic Orchard at Altapass on Orchard Road, Milepost 328.4 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fresh apples and peaches July to November (you pick or we pick), fresh baked goods, free tours of orchard, music, history, tall tales, and hay rides by request on Saturdays.
