Hiwassee reservoir is located in Cherokee County on the Tusquitee Ranger District. The reservoir is almost completely surrounded by National Forest Land thus is undeveloped with the exception of a few coves. This lake attracts both local and out-of state fisherman due to the wide range of game fish species. Game fish within the reservoir include: walleye, black bass species, white bass, crappie, and sunfish. The Tennessee Valley Authority maintains water levels and the dam on the Hiwassee Reservoir. Access: From Murphy follow NC1326 (Joe Brown Hwy) into the Grape Creek, Ogreta and Hanging Dog communities. Follow signs to access areas. |
